Bob made a big announcement today ... he's looking to sell Hombu.
For me it is THE logical step from his return from Shikoku, that he turned down at the time (those around will remember) ... and I'm saying FINALLY - but for Bob the timing feels more right now, so now it is. There are a number of contributing factors, including a ridiculous jump in rates payable with the new property evaluations, the LifeCentre sign being blown down in the wind - as well as a growing realisation that it is time for change.
The what, where, when, who,why are still largely unanswered, but classes will continue as usual until such time as the land is sold (and with a listed house it would not have been the easiest sale in the best of conditions) and will then probably continue in a nearby hall, until the new and mysterious direction unfolds.
Selling up is the BIG news ...
Otherwise Bob is still working on fixing his knee (slowly but surely, I think) - and this was assisted by a really nasty cold, which I am now sniffing, sweating, and coughing my way through.
I'm still waiting to hear about the Polish Climate Change Conference fellowship position. Announcement was due last Friday but has been delayed while they figure out how many positions are available. My guess is that the global financial crisis has seen some radical budget adjustments ... announcement now due this Friday.
This Friday is also the Vodacom Journalist of the Year Awards final round in Sandton. Christina and I will be there, but I don't think we stand a chance of winning as one entry in our category - Online - not only has print-style media reports but added blogs and other media clips, so I suspect they will sweep the category clean for maximising online potential. Still - sort of looking forward to a moment of glory - although when crunch time comes, I'd rather be invisible.
Then next week I am being treated to a mystery holiday by Bob from Nov 10 to 14. I've finally managed to have him concede that it is a cruise ... I hope he's right about not getting sick on big boats ... and I hope we're over this darn cold enough to really enjoy the experience.
As far as the cottage in the 'berg for Shaz goes: we went up and viewed a few ... and I more or less decided on one - and then discovered that they had changed their minds and were not open to a short lease. One of the places is still open, though (it is not ready yet) and they're looking for someone to feed the horses between Christmas and New Year - so I'm tempted to at least do that stint - but doubt Bob would come with me with the property on the market.
For the rest, I've decided that with Bob's fairly sudden decision to sell, it would be best to wait and see more or less in which direction the path intends to unfold before deciding I really want a cottage in Underberg.
So the stirring changes of Spring are starting to ripple out into our lives a little ... everything is filled with curiosity and endless possibility - unless we insist on hoping for different results while doing what we have always done.
